It’s a 750 hp Mustang a lot of people have been waiting for since the 662 hp S550.3 GT500 was discontinued in 2014. You bet your ass people are going to watch that video.

Yea..maybe. I still don’ t buy it though. He has more views than more reputable channels/personalities. Jay Leno only has 516k as of this writing on the GT500. MotorWeek only has 42k. Hell a guy that actually bought one has 464k from a video posted 4 days ago. And a lot of other videos with way more views than him are from months ago about the car. Hes pretty much at a million views now. In 24 hours.

I posted a Mustang pic to my Instagram and got more likes than anything else I’d ever posted. Mustangs and the internet....

Look at their respective strategies. Their marketing, and how they structure their videos. I personally can’t stand Doug’s videos, but it’s clear he has a much s tronger understanding of what it takes to draw in and hold t he largest number of viewers. Doug has been approaching it from a “star YouTube blogger content creator/entertainer” standpoint, which is similar to a majority o f the most-viewed non-automotive YouTube channels. In stark contrast you’ve got Jay Leno, Motorweek, and other more established automotive personalities/websites that are basically treating YouTube like a newspaper article. Not to say that their content is bad or they’re making the wrong choice from a journalistic and/or enthusiast standpoint, more so that a majority of the bigger sites are just  not approaching modern platforms in a way that makes the best use of them.

This. This is the difference and you are exactly right. His approach is typical Youtuber, which is annoying. I don’t necessarily find him annoying, but there are channels that do car stuff that have a YouTube shtick to it. Like why do I need some intro joke or small plot for a comparison test? Throttle House comes to mind.

The ones you mentioned that treat YouTube like a newspaper article or more informative are the ones I like. Straight to the point, gets to the information and ends. 3-7 minutes. I don’t need 30 minutes drawn out talking about it. And I think that shows how our culture is now, especially with YouTube as a platform. If you aren’t coming with a shtick or acting dumb in some ways your might as well not come at all. Its shit over quality.

It’s no coincidence that so many younger, new-to-their-respective-industry brands have done much better than the more conservative set-in-their-ways e stablished competitors on YouTube, and social media as a whole. Although there are certainly exceptions, like with @slimjim’s Instagram account, the history of which could be used to teach a college level marketing course. As a sometimes marketing and advertising guy, this kind of thing is my jam, even if I would also personally prefer the content that you’re talking about too.

H ave you watched Fortnine’s videos? The team may not have Doug levels of views, but they're gaining popularity and if I'm being honest.... I think they may be the single best thing on YouTube!

While lucrative, personally it would have to be about more than money for me. I think it all just points to how dumb and easily entertained the younger generation is. I see some of the YouTube channels my son watches for instance and I’m like these guys are popular why? And I get it, its not for me, but at the same time it all just kind of comes across as lazy in the long run. Especially when you take those same personalities out of the YouTube platform and put them on actual film and tv, you see how most fall flat. Because there was never any talent there to begin with.

Possibly but probably not . Hes got 3.1 million subscribers alone.

Less than 1/3 viewed it in a day if it was just subscribers. Not to mention the number of people who Google Mu stang or M uscle car

It’s crazy to think but there are more view per second on YouTube than Google searches

Doug’s writing and videos prior to the quirks/features niche was very enjoable . Glad he has found a gravy train but good god is it boring and I rarely watch or read his content anymore.

Yea when he first started I was a loyal follower. Mostly because that was his niche: quirks and features. Now its just typical YouTube. And yea his writing is kind of boring last time I read it. I haven’ t seen it in awhile though. Does he still write for AutoTrader? I’ m guessing no as YouTube probably takes all his time now.
